Team Development and Alignment

I often hear two comments from leaders about their teams:

-
“My senior team members are technically skilled. Yet they often don't collaborate well and are often blind to their weaknesses”
-
“I wish my senior team members were more self-aware and worked better together in alignment with organizational needs”

Team coaching is a practical way to apply the principles of coaching to the team as a whole. It enables the team members to:
-
Learn relevant leadership skills specific to their needs along with peers.
-
Work on their individual specific challenges while still aligning with others in the team.
-
Develop a climate of psychological safety building deeper levels of trust and higher quality of collaboration.
-
Gain greater clarity and consistency around what’s most important for the team to achieve collectively.
-
Understand how best to support each other, where each can play to their strengths.

Senior team coaching is most effective when:
-
A new team is being formed and needs to hit the ground running
-
Team members need to step up and work more collaboratively
-
A crisis has shaken the trust and the team needs to revitalise
These sessions are conducted in a safe, non-judgmental and relaxed manner that allows you to better connect with yourself and with others.

Daniel Goleman is one of the pioneers of emotional leadership and organisational leadership. The Harvard Business Review chose his article “What Makes a Leader” as one of 10 “must-read” articles from its pages. He developed the Emotional and Social Competency Inventory (ESCI).
The ESCI model describes 12 competencies that differentiate outstanding from average performers. As a globally certified facilitator, I have worked with various organisations across the US, Asia and Africa to implement leadership development program based on individual and team ESCI competencies.

"When my leadership team on a major new project experienced some challenges jelling, a colleague suggested retaining Sanjay to help. My previous experiences with leadership coaches entailed working with the team as a whole, with varied results.
Sanjay suggested instead beginning with a focus on the individuals in the team, and later doing team sessions. While I was initially sceptical, the team members and I soon found Sanjay's individual-first focus surprisingly effective. The team began to work together more effectively, and the team members noticed positive changes in themselves and each other.
In his work with me, Sanjay would listen closely and ask questions that enabled me to see things from a different perspective. And when needed, he would push and challenge me to go deeper. And long after our sessions, I have kept with me some of the helpful practices he taught us. In fact, I found sessions with Sanjay so beneficial that I later engaged him personally after moving on from the team he initially helped me with."
